On Monday evening, Serbian tennis player, Janko Tipsarevic sparked outrage after tweeting a sarcastic statement about equal prize money after Serena Williams’s double bagel match.
The first to attack the WTA and the equal prize money was Gilles Simon and now Tipsarevic has followed suit. The criticisms seem to go on and this time the person to rage against those who permit the tennis players earn the same amount of men is Janko Tipsarevic. The Serbian player, through a series of tweets, expressed his dismay. The tweet was posted after Serena Williams easy win 6-0 6-0 against Hlavackova. These comments were made by Tipsarevic
“I do not care at all if the girls earn the same boys as long as on the court they put in the same quantity of work and effort. There are idiots who think differently? They are asked to stand up and say their name loud and clear. “
“Ok, so how many idiots think that Williams, Stosur, Kirilenko, Li, Sharapova … are in better shape than most of us guys and believe that they are able to play the best of five sets? Those who think this say your name. “
But the controversy does not end there as he made comparisons with other sports:
“How many of you think that women should play 16 holes and not 18 in golf?”
Harsh words were sent to Tipsarevic via Twitter by many outraged fans who could not believe that he was opposing equal prize money, which today will certainly continue to be a very controversial topic for the Serb.
